Emily Hugo
Brand Identity and Creative Direction
The Emily Hugo brand was designed to feel timeless and refined while embracing authenticity and imperfection. The primary wordmark draws inspiration from a classic serif typeface, reworked with softer, more organic forms to create a look that feels approachable rather than overly polished. Paired with a handwritten typeface, the identity becomes personal and full of character.
The visual identity mirrors the photography itself. Elegant, yet raw and emotional. Every element has been considered to elevate the imagery, allowing each photograph to feel less like a digital asset and more like a handcrafted piece of art.
This sense of authenticity flows throughout the brand through textured edges, organic lines, and handwritten details that gently break beyond the grid. Combined with a minimal design approach, these expressive elements have room to breathe, creating a brand that feels artistic and beautifully balanced without ever feeling cluttered.
The Brand Mark
The brandmark was created by taking the "E" from Emily and reflecting it to form the "H" for Hugo. This simple concept creates a unique monogram while subtly representing the relationship between the two initials.
The mirrored form was inspired by Emily's love of film photography and the mechanics behind traditional cameras, where mirrors reflect light to create each image. It is a quiet nod to her craft, adding meaning to the mark without compromising its simplicity.
